Need to speed up your computer? Does your computer slow down when working with large files or many programs at once? One of the fastest and easiest ways to speed up the computer is to install more memory. The information below will walk you through the process of increasing the computers speed.
How to install Memory for a Desktop System:
Step A:
- Turn off the computer and pull the power cable from the CPU (or the outlet)
- Ground yourself (touch a metal surface or use a Anti-Static Grounding Discharge Kit)
- Remove the computer case cover (screwdriver maybe needed)
- Locate your empty slot(s)
Step B:
- Carefully remove your new memory from the package (please make sure you have the correct pin and type of memory before attempting to insert)
- Unfasten the "Clips" from both ends of the memory slot
- Line up the "gap" on the memory module with the corresponding slot in the CPU
- Slide the new memory aligned evenly into the slot (some require it to be inserted on a slight angle and pushed straight) using equal pressure. You should hear a snap when the pins clip it in. (Do Not Force!)
- Repeat for additional memory modules
Step C:
- Replace the computer cover and secure it
- Plug the power cable back in
- Restart system
Step D:
- Verifying the new memory (Right Click "My Computer," select "Properties" and you will see the amount of RAM under the heading "Computer")

If removing or replacing memory
Complete Step 1,
- Unfasten the "Clips"
- Pull out the old Memory module
- Continue with Step 2
How to install Memory for a Laptop:
