1. What is USB?

USB stands for Universal Serial Bus. It was developed in 1995 for making adding peripherals to computers as easy as hooking up a telephone to a wall-jack without any hassle. Users don't even need to shut down and restart your PC to attach or remove the USB device. Just plug-and-play! (Windows 2000 or XP provides full hot-swap support to USB devices. For earlier Windows version such as 95/98/Me/NT drivers are required.)

2. What are the differences between USB 1.1 and USB 2.0

USB 2.0 (Hi-speed USB) increases the data transfer rate from 12 Mbps (Megabits per second) of USB1.1 up to 480 Mbps.

USB TYPE DATA TRANSFER SPEED
USB 1.1 at low speed 1.5 Mbps
USB 1.1 at high speed 12 Mbps
USB 2.0 at full speed 360 - 480 Mbps

USB 2.0 is both forward and backward compatible with USB 1.1.

USB specification version 2.0 is the next-generation peripheral connection for personal computers. It is intended as an upgrade for USB 1.1. Not only the new standard provides additional bandwidth for multimedia and storage applications but also offers Plug-and-Play capability and full backward compatibility for legacy USB devices.

3. Is USB1.1 and USB2.0 convertible?

USB 2.0 is fully backward compatible with USB 1.1. You are able to use a USB2.0 device in a USB 1.1 compliant system, but at USB1.1 data transfer rate.

4. How do I know if my PC supports USB? Where can I get USB Ready?

For Windows 95/98/Me/NT users, you can download the free USB evaluation utility to examine your PC's USB capabilities. Windows 2000 and XP provides full hot-swap support to USB devices.
If your PC was made during or before 1996, it probably doesn't support USB. For those computers made during or after 1998 almost has USB capabilities.

5. Do I need driver to use the flash pen drive?

No driver required for Windows 2000/ME/XP, Mac OS 8.6, Mac OS X, Linux 2.4.0 or higher. Windows 98/98/Me/NT requires appropriate device driver.

6. What type of files can be stored on a USB Flash Drive?

The USB Flash Drive behaves like any other hard drive, thus it supports storage of all types files provided the operating system is compatible
